The Inquisitor’s Apprentice is about a Jewish boy, Sacha, who can see magic. Everyday life involves magic where he lives, although it is technically illegal. He becomes the apprentice to one of the best Inquisitors, Inquisitor Wolf. A rich, stuck-up girl named Lily Astral is also an apprentice of Wolf, and together, Sacha, Lily, and Inquisitor Wolf investigate who is trying to kill Thomas Edison. He has invented a machine that can detect witches and magic, so many people around town would want to get rid of him. But soon, Sacha finds himself lying to Inquisitor Wolf about all sorts of things, all starting because his mother’s locket is found dangling under Edison’s machine . He tells Wolf he has never seen the locket before, but starts to wonder if the answer to who is trying to kill Edison is right under his nose—maybe right in his own household. At first this book is a bit slow, and it took me a while to get into it, but once they start investigating, the plot becomes more interesting. I suggest this book to mystery-lovers and fans of Harry Potter.
