I finally read The Hunger Games and was not disappointed. In fact, it was so good, I read it whenever I could. In case you don’t already know what it is about, here is a quick summary: 17-year-old Katniss Everdeen is chosen, along with a boy named Peeta Mellark, to compete in an annual game called the Hunger Games, where two people from each district (there are 12 districts) are chosen to compete. There is only allowed to be one person left in the Hunger Games, so everyone has to kill each other until everyone is dead except one person. There are 24 people who start. The Capitol of Panem (what used to be North America) hosts this grotesque game to remind the 12 districts that they can’t rebel against the Capitol or it will result in many deaths. Although Suzanne Collins writes this book so that you are constantly on the edge of your seat, it is for ages 12 and older because there is, of course, a lot of violence. The Hunger Games is part of a trilogy, along with the sequel, Catching Fire, and the third book, Mockingjay.
